Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth £65 million, with an additional £6 million in performance-related add-ons. The transfer, first reported by AFP, marks a major coup for United manager Ruben Amorim, who is aggressively revamping his attacking unit following a dismal season.

Mbeumo, 25, enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 Premier League campaign, scoring 20 goals in 38 matches, making him one of the division’s most sought-after wingers. His pace, sharp movement, and ability to play across the forward line made him a prime target for several top clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

United had seen two earlier bids rejected by Brentford, but finally sealed the deal with an improved offer. Mbeumo is expected to undergo a medical shortly, and could join the squad in time for their pre-season tour in the United States, which begins Tuesday.

The former Troyes forward becomes Amorim’s third signing this summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolves (£62.5 million) and teenage defender Diego Leon from Paraguay. Amorim, who took over at the end of a catastrophic season, is focused on rejuvenating a squad that finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham.

United’s forward line was heavily criticized last season, with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to deliver. Amorim has reportedly told winger Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are also expected to depart after loan stints at Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.

Mbeumo’s versatility—able to play on either wing or as a central attacker—adds depth and unpredictability to United’s frontline. Across six seasons with Brentford, he scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists in 242 games, helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and securing an impressive 10th-place finish last season.

Despite missing out on Champions League football—costing the club an estimated £70 million in lost revenue—United have pressed ahead with an ambitious transfer campaign. Amorim is believed to have full backing from the board to rebuild the squad in his image.

Fans are now eagerly anticipating how Mbeumo will fit into United’s plans as they aim to bounce back from their lowest league finish since 1973-74.
