At least seven people, including military personnel from Qatar and Turkey, have been confirmed dead after a military helicopter crashed into Qatar’s territorial waters during a training exercise.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Qatar Interior Ministry confirmed that all seven individuals who were on board had been recovered and pronounced dead.

“All those who were on board have been found, numbering seven, and their martyrdom has been confirmed,” the ministry said, marking the end of rescue operations.

Victims Identified

The Qatar Ministry of Defence identified four of the victims as members of the Qatari armed forces: Captain Mubarak Salem Daway al-Marri, Sergeant Fahad Hadi Ghanem al-Khayarin, Corporal Mohammed Maher Mohammed, and Captain Saeed Nasser Sameekh.

Also among the deceased was Major Sinan Tastekin, who served under the Qatar-Turkey Joint Forces Command, alongside two Turkish civilians — Suleiman Cemra Kahraman and Ismail Anas.

The Turkish nationals were reportedly affiliated with Aselsan, a major defence contractor.

Crash During Training Exercise

According to the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, the helicopter was conducting a routine training mission as part of joint military cooperation between Qatar and Turkey when it crashed into the sea.

Preliminary reports from Qatari authorities indicate that the crash was caused by a technical malfunction, although investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.

Regional Context

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following recent military developments involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Notably, this marks the first recorded fatalities involving Qatari and Turkish personnel since the escalation of hostilities in the region earlier this year.

Ongoing Investigations

Authorities in both Qatar and Turkey have pledged to conduct thorough investigations into the crash, with further details expected in the coming days.

Meanwhile, tributes have begun pouring in for the victims, who were described as dedicated personnel serving their countries.
