The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has introduced a new automated Instant Fines Traffic Management System aimed at improving enforcement of traffic laws and curbing road offences across Kenya.
Under the new system, motorists who commit traffic violations will receive instant SMS notifications informing them of the offence and the penalty issued.
In a statement released on Monday, NTSA said the system is fully automated and operates without human intervention, a move the authority says will enhance transparency, efficiency and accountability in traffic enforcement.

According to the directive, all fines issued through the system must be paid through the KCB Group branch network within seven days.
NTSA warned that motorists who fail to pay the fines within the stipulated period will incur additional interest on the outstanding amount.
The authority also stated that drivers or vehicle owners with pending fines will not be able to access or transact on NTSA service platforms until the penalties are fully settled.
“The vehicle or the driver with a pending fine will not be able to transact on NTSA service platforms until the fine is settled,” NTSA said.
Motorists have been urged to strictly observe traffic regulations and respond promptly to official notifications sent through the system.
The move forms part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance road safety and ensure stricter compliance with traffic laws across the country.
