The Kenyan government has deployed more than 1,000 police officers and introduced traffic diversions to ensure safety and smooth movement during the upcoming Safari Rally Kenya scheduled to take place from March 12 to March 15, 2026 in Naivasha and its surrounding areas.
In a statement issued through the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, authorities confirmed that a comprehensive security and traffic management plan has been activated to guarantee the safety of rally drivers, teams, spectators and residents during the globally recognized motorsport event.
Multi-Agency Security Operation
According to the government, the security plan involves a multi-agency coordination framework bringing together several key institutions to manage security, public safety and transport operations throughout the rally period.
The agencies involved include the National Police Service, National Transport and Safety Authority, Kenya National Highways Authority and the National Government Administration Officers.
These agencies will work closely with county authorities and rally organizers to ensure smooth coordination during the four-day event, which is part of the global World Rally Championship calendar.
Authorities said the deployment of more than 1,000 police officers from various units will cover rally routes, spectator zones and major access roads leading to the competition areas.
The officers will be responsible for maintaining security, controlling crowds and directing traffic to prevent congestion and accidents.
Traffic Diversions and Alternative Routes
The government has also announced temporary traffic management measures and road diversions along several rally routes and nearby access corridors.
Motorists traveling along the Nairobi–Naivasha highway without business in Naivasha have been advised to use alternative routes to ease traffic pressure.
Suggested alternative routes include:
- Nairobi – Limuru – Flyover – Njabini – Ol Kalou – Ndondori – Lanet – Nakuru
- Nairobi – Mai Mahiu – Narok – Nakuru – Western Kenya
Officials say these alternative routes will help reduce congestion expected along the main highway leading to Naivasha during the rally weekend.
Safety Advisory to Spectators
Fans planning to attend the rally have been urged to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by security officers and rally marshals.
Spectators have been advised to:
- Watch the rally only from designated spectator zones
- Follow instructions issued by security personnel and event officials
- Avoid entering restricted rally tracks or operational areas
Authorities warn that accessing restricted zones could pose serious safety risks due to the high speeds at which rally vehicles travel.
Government Calls for Cooperation
The government has called on rally fans, local residents and visitors to cooperate with security agencies and event organizers to ensure the success of the event.
Officials emphasized that adherence to traffic regulations and safety instructions will help Kenya continue hosting one of the most iconic motorsport events in the world.
The Safari Rally Kenya remains one of the toughest and most celebrated races in the World Rally Championship series and attracts thousands of local and international fans every year.
