Francis Atwoli has been re-elected as Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) for a sixth five-year term, solidifying his position as the longest-serving leader in the history of Kenya’s workers’ movement.

The re-election took place during a delegates’ meeting at the Tom Mboya Labour College, where Atwoli secured the top post after winning the confidence of more than 250 delegates from 47 affiliated unions.

Atwoli’s Message to Workers

In his acceptance speech, Atwoli expressed gratitude to the delegates and reaffirmed his commitment to defending workers’ rights:

“This renewed mandate is not mine alone, it belongs to the millions of workers whose rights and welfare COTU (K) continues to defend and advance.”

Representing over three million workers across Kenya, COTU plays a crucial role in advocating for labour rights and advising the government on employment policies.
