Iran Warns UAE Over Alleged Attacks Linked to Disputed Gulf Islands

Iran’s military has issued a stern warning to the United Arab Emirates, cautioning against allowing its territory to be used for attacks targeting Iranian-controlled islands in the Gulf.

In a statement carried by Tasnim news agency, Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that any further aggression originating from the UAE would trigger a forceful response.

“We warn the United Arab Emirates that if any further aggression originates from its territory against the Iranian islands of Abu Musa and Greater Tunb, Iran’s armed forces will subject Ras Al Khaimah to heavy strikes,” the statement read.

The warning centers on the disputed islands of Abu Musa and Greater Tunb, which are controlled by Iran but claimed by the UAE. The islands lie near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz — a narrow waterway through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.

Tensions in the region have escalated amid a widening conflict that began with strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, and has since spread across parts of the Middle East.

Iran has accused several Gulf states of allowing U.S. forces to use their territory to launch attacks, claims that have been consistently denied by regional governments. In response, Tehran has carried out missile and drone strikes targeting what it describes as U.S. interests in the region.

Gulf countries, including the UAE, have reiterated that they will not permit their territory or airspace to be used for military operations against Iran, both before and during the ongoing conflict.

The latest warning underscores rising geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies, where any escalation could have far-reaching economic and security implications.
