At least 10 people have been killed and 32 others injured following a bus accident in eastern Mexico, authorities in the state of Veracruz have confirmed.
The crash occurred on Christmas Eve in the town of Zontecomatlán, as the bus was travelling from Mexico City to Chicontepec, local officials said.
In a statement, the Zontecomatlán mayor’s office confirmed that the fatalities included nine adults and one child.
The municipality also released a list of the injured passengers and the hospitals where they were admitted for treatment. The condition of some of the injured was not immediately disclosed.
Deadly road accidents, particularly involving buses and heavy trucks, remain common in Mexico. Authorities often attribute such crashes to speeding, poor road conditions, or mechanical failure.
The latest incident comes barely weeks after a similar crash in late November in the western state of Michoacán, where 10 people were killed and 20 others injured.
Investigations into the cause of the Zontecomatlán crash are ongoing.
