President William Ruto has consistently addressed his critics with emphatic statements asserting his leadership decisions and vision for Kenya.
In May 2024, responding to scrutiny over his use of a private jet for a state visit to the United States, Ruto stated: “I am not a madman.” He defended the expenditure by explaining that the chartered jet cost the government less than Ksh.10 million, which he claimed was more economical than flying with Kenya Airways. He emphasized his commitment to fiscal responsibility, saying, “I must lead from the front as I tell others to tighten up their belt; mine must be where to begin.”
In July 2024, amid social media claims that the government planned to sell Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Ruto refuted the allegations, asserting: “Am I a madman? How do you sell a strategic national asset like an airport? It is unimaginable.” He clarified that the government’s intention was to seek investors through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to modernize the airport’s facilities, not to sell it.
These instances reflect President Ruto’s approach to confronting criticism by reaffirming his decisions and emphasizing his commitment to Kenya’s development and prudent governance,
