Ford-Kenya, led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, has firmly rejected calls to dissolve and merge into a single political entity within the Kenya Kwanza coalition. In a unanimous decision following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Elementaita Lodge in Nakuru County, the party affirmed its commitment to remain independent while remaining active within the coalition.
Secretary General John Chikati emphasized that the decision was made after extensive consultations with party members. He stated that Ford-Kenya plans to field candidates in upcoming by-elections once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is reconstituted. Additionally, the party intends to launch a 30-day mass registration campaign targeting youth in counties such as Turkana, Vihiga, West Pokot, Nandi, Kilifi, and Wajir to strengthen its grassroots presence.
This move comes amid the recent merger of Amani National Congress (ANC) with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a key party in the Kenya Kwanza coalition. Despite this, Ford-Kenya has expressed openness to forming alliances with like-minded parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
