LIVERPOOL, April 27, 2025 — Liverpool Football Club has secured its second Premier League title and a record-equalling 20th English top-flight championship, matching the historic benchmark set by Manchester United. The Reds achieved this milestone under the leadership of manager Arne Slot, who delivered the league crown in his debut season at Anfield.
A commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday sealed the title with four matches remaining. The win propelled Liverpool to 82 points, placing them 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal, who have 67 points. This early clinching of the title marks Liverpool as the seventh team in Premier League history to secure the championship with games to spare.
The triumph is particularly poignant for Liverpool supporters, as it represents the first time the club has celebrated a Premier League title in front of fans. Their previous league win in the 2019/20 season occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, when matches were played behind closed doors.
Arne Slot, reflecting on the achievement, credited the fervent support of the fans:
“The way we arrived on the bus, everyone was thinking there is no way we were going to lose this game. Conceding first made it difficult, but they always find a way to win.”
Mohamed Salah, who scored to make it 4-1 during the match, expressed his joy:
“It is incredible to win this with our fans. This is 100 per cent better than last time, especially with the fans. We have a different group now so to show we can do it again is something special.”
Salah has been instrumental in Liverpool’s campaign, leading the Premier League with 28 goals and 18 assists. His 46 goal involvements account for 58% of the team’s league goals this season. He is on the verge of becoming only the second player to record 20+ goals and 20+ assists in a single Premier League season, a feat previously achieved by Thierry Henry in 2002/03.
The victory also sees Liverpool move to fifth in the Premier League era title rankings, with two championships, behind Manchester United (13), Manchester City (8), Chelsea (5), and Arsenal (3). However, when considering all-time English top-flight titles, Liverpool now shares the top spot with Manchester United, each boasting 20 championships.
