A Kenya Airways (KQ) flight bound for Dar es Salaam was forced to return to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday following a medical emergency, the airline said.
Flight KQ484, which departed JKIA at 12:48 pm, made the emergency landing at around 1:40 pm. According to Kenya Airways, medical personnel were on standby to receive the flight, and all necessary health and safety protocols were followed. However, the airline did not specify the nature of the emergency.
Earlier reports suggested the possibility of a toxic chemical leak in the cargo hold from a previous flight, though this has not been officially confirmed.
After the situation was addressed, the aircraft was cleared for takeoff and departed again for Dar es Salaam at 3:54 pm, KQ said in a statement.
