The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that Grace Nduta Wairimu, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kanyenya-ini Ward in Murang’a County, spent the entire night of May 25, 2025, with Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South. This revelation comes amid investigations into an alleged abduction of MP Koimburi, which authorities now suspect was staged.

According to a statement released by the DCI on May 29, 2025, Nduta was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the purportedly orchestrated abduction. Despite Nduta’s claims of attending church services and political rallies in Kangema on the day in question, surveillance footage and other evidence place her at the bar in Gatundu South with Koimburi throughout the night.

“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night,” the DCI stated.

Nduta’s driver, Joseph Kamau, recounted that she received a call from an unidentified man to meet at a restaurant in Kandara. Upon arriving, he noticed a suspicious vehicle with lowered windows and alerted Nduta. Subsequently, she became unreachable, and hotel management later confirmed that she had been taken away by three men.

The arrest of Nduta brings the total number of suspects in custody over the matter to four. Police have sought 15 days from the court to detain the suspects as investigations continue.

This incident follows a series of legal challenges faced by MP Koimburi, including his arrest on February 18, 2025, over allegations of forging academic certificates and making false statements regarding government expenditure on the African Union Commission (AUC) elections. Koimburi had claimed that the government spent KSh 13 billion campaigning for Raila Odinga’s unsuccessful bid for the AUC chairmanship. He was charged with six counts related to forgery and released on a KSh 200,000 bond.

The unfolding events have raised concerns among political leaders and the public, with some viewing the developments as attempts to silence government critics. Investigations into the alleged staged abduction and related matters are ongoing.
