A dramatic clash unfolded in Senate on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, when Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale stunned the chamber by accusing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of acting as an agent of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Standing amid tense silence, Khalwale charged Wetang’ula with aligning himself exclusively with UDA, arguing that he had taken part in partisan “empowerment” events—allegedly disbursing millions in public funds in alignment with UDA agendas. “Mr Speaker, nowhere in the history of this Republic has a Speaker behaved like this,” Khalwale declared, drawing gasps and heated reactions from fellow lawmakers.

His remarks elicited immediate backlash. Senator Samson Cherargei questioned Khalwale’s credibility, noting Khalwale himself is affiliated with UDA and challenging if his assertions were in order within parliamentary decorum. Cherargei called for a formal motion if Khalwale wished to pursue the matter substantively.

Other Senators weighed in. Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli demanded that Khalwale show respect to the Speaker’s office—or else produce evidence for his bold claims. Meanwhile, Senator Mohammed Faki urged the Senate leadership to engage the National Assembly in resolving the matter through dialogue rather than confrontation. Another Senator likened the standoff to a comedy of absurdity, dismissing it as a waste of time over settled territorial turf between the two Houses.

As the session spiraled into chaos, the presiding Senate Speaker repeatedly asked Khalwale to focus and substantiate his allegations. Despite attempts to maintain order, the chamber’s tone remained confrontational throughout.
