A 25-year-old woman from Bomet County has been arrested for allegedly killing her boyfriend following a heated dispute over a mobile phone. The tragic incident took place in Samoget village, Bomet East Sub-County, where police say the suspect, identified as Faith Cherono, attacked and fatally injured her 33-year-old boyfriend, Emanuel Kiprono, during a confrontation that turned violent.

According to Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa, Cherono had visited her boyfriend’s home on Tuesday to demand the return of her phone, which she claimed he had taken without her permission. The argument between the two quickly escalated but appeared to cool down after they agreed to revisit the issue later. Later in the day, the couple was seen walking together toward the nearby Mau Forest area, where tragedy struck.

It is alleged that Cherono, in a fit of rage, struck Kiprono at the back of the head with a sword, inflicting a deep wound that led to his immediate death. After the attack, she fled the scene and crossed over to Narok County, where she surrendered herself to officers at Tendwet Police Station. Police later recovered Kiprono’s lifeless body from the forest area with a severe head injury, confirming the brutal nature of the assault. His body was taken to Tenwek Hospital Mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.

Authorities are now holding Cherono in custody as investigations continue into the shocking murder. While the mobile phone dispute appears to have been the immediate cause, police say they are exploring whether other underlying issues in the relationship may have contributed to the fatal confrontation.

The incident has left residents of Samoget village in disbelief, with many expressing sorrow over the senseless loss of life caused by a domestic disagreement. Local leaders have urged couples to seek peaceful ways to resolve conflicts, emphasizing the need for emotional restraint and dialogue in relationships.

As investigations proceed, police have assured the public that justice will take its course. The case highlights growing concerns about the rise of intimate partner violence in rural areas and the urgent need for community education on conflict management and mental health awareness.
