MCA Arrested Over Deadly Narok Clashes as Police Hunt Two Other Suspects

Police in Trans Mara South have arrested two suspects, including a local Member of County Assembly (MCA), in connection with the ongoing violent clashes in Ang’ata Barrikoi area, Narok County.

Trans Mara Sub-County Police Commander Erick Telewa confirmed the arrests, saying the two are currently being held at Lolgorian Police Station as investigations continue.

According to police, security agencies are actively pursuing two additional suspects who evaded arrest during a police operation conducted on Saturday evening.

The situation in Ang’ata Barrikoi remains tense and volatile, with authorities confirming multiple fatalities and widespread destruction following violent confrontations between two neighbouring communities.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat warned that all those behind the violence would be brought to justice, regardless of their social or political standing.

“We are going to arrest and prosecute all inciters, financiers, and criminals involved, irrespective of their status in society. Some have already been arrested this morning,” Lagat said.

The clashes have displaced more than 1,800 residents, while at least 253 houses have been torched in what locals describe as coordinated attacks. Security agencies have raised concerns over the scale of destruction, warning that the conflict could escalate further if not urgently contained.

Emurua Dikirr (Trans Mara East) MP Johana Ngeno has called for the immediate disarmament of civilians following the violence along the border of Lolgorian and Ang’ata Barrikoi wards.

Ngeno urged security agencies to mop up illegal firearms in the area and recommended fresh vetting for holders of licensed guns to prevent weapons from being used to fuel communal violence.

He also appealed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to personally take charge of the deteriorating security situation in the region.

Speaking at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, the MP further called on the Ministry of Lands to urgently resolve long-standing land disputes, which he said remain the root cause of recurring conflict in Trans Mara.

The developments follow a high-level security briefing held on Saturday, during which Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat declared Trans Mara South and parts of Trans Mara West as disturbed areas.

As part of emergency measures to restore order, authorities imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew to allow security agencies to conduct operations without interference.
