Police in Matuu, Yatta and Tawa have launched investigations into a suspected carjacking and murder after the body of a 26-year-old lorry driver was found dumped in Kasyelia village, Tawa area of Mbooni Sub-County.
The deceased was driving lorry registration number KDR 422F, which was loaded with 259 bags of cement from Simba Cement Factory in Athi River. According to police, the vehicle was tracked moving along the Athi River–MKS–Masii–Mwala–Matuu route before it was diverted at Masii towards the Tawa area under unclear circumstances.
Authorities said the driver’s mobile phone went off shortly after the diversion, raising alarm and prompting the lorry owner to report the matter at Matuu Police Station at around 11:00 pm.
The lorry was later found abandoned at Kithuia shopping centre at approximately 1:30 am, with the ignition keys still inside. The driver and any other occupants were missing at the time.
A search was immediately launched by police in Tawa, leading to the discovery of the driver’s body in a nearby bush. The body bore visible injuries, with the hands tied behind the back and a rope around the neck and forehead, indicating foul play.
The body was removed to Tawa Mortuary, while the lorry was towed to Tawa Police Station for further investigations. Preliminary findings suggest the driver may have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the scene. Police also noted that the cement cargo had not been interfered with.
Confirming the incident, Matuu OCS Stanley Wanjala said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify the suspects involved
