Newly elected Malava Member of Parliament David Ndakwa has pledged to prioritise education as he begins his tenure, saying it will remain the cornerstone of his leadership agenda.

Mr Ndakwa said he would follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, the late Malulu Injendi, by giving education the attention and resources it deserves.

Speaking at Shitirira Primary School, where he led a fundraising drive alongside President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet to construct a dining hall, the MP said investing in education benefits not only Malava Constituency but the country at large.

“An educated society is a strong society. Education must remain our top priority if Malava is to realise its full potential,” Ndakwa said.

He announced that beginning January 2026, he will convene meetings with the Malava advisory committee to chart the way forward on education matters within the constituency.

“We want to improve education standards in Malava, and we are working towards a master plan that will streamline the constituency’s education calendar and ensure smooth implementation of programmes,” he said.

Ndakwa said the distribution of bursary application forms has already begun for students in secondary schools, tertiary institutions and universities across the constituency.

He urged parents and guardians to apply on time to ensure eligible learners benefit from the funds.

The MP also revealed that part of the bursary allocation will be directed towards improving school infrastructure, a move he said would help enhance learning outcomes and academic performance.

Ndakwa lauded a recent inspection visit by the NG-CDF Board to ongoing projects in Malava, including an KSh 8 million classroom project at Luhokho Primary School in South Kabras Ward.

He noted that Malava receives nearly KSh 200 million in bursary allocations every financial year, underscoring the importance of protecting and properly utilising the funds.

Presidential aide Farouk Kibet, who was the chief guest at the event, donated KSh 1 million towards the renovation of the Shitirira Primary School dining hall and assured residents of continued government support for education projects in the constituency.

Kibet said the support was in line with commitments made by the government following the death of the former MP.

He urged parents to change their attitudes towards education and fully embrace government-supported initiatives.

Kibet, who played a key role in supporting schools during the recent by-election campaigns, emphasised that education must remain a top priority for Malava.

He also praised Shitirira Primary School for its strong academic performance and pledged to host a celebration for teachers and pupils when schools reopen on January 10, 2026, as a way of motivating them.

“The government is investing heavily in education and has increased its budget allocation because it understands the central role education plays in national development,” Kibet said.
