A man has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident near Kimbimbi Trading Centre along the busy Mwea–Embu highway in Kirinyaga County.
Residents of Kimbimbi, led by Irungu Mwangi, said the unidentified man’s body was discovered lying by the roadside at around 3 a.m. on Thursday.
It is believed that the victim was knocked down by a speeding vehicle, which fled the scene without stopping.
Angry residents confronted police officers who arrived at the scene, accusing them of responding late to the incident. The officers later took the body to Kerugoya Mortuary as investigations commenced.
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the accident or have any information that could help identify the vehicle involved to come forward.
Meanwhile, residents of Kirinyaga have raised alarm over the rising number of road accidents along the Mwea–Embu highway, blaming the trend on reckless driving and speeding.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that those responsible will be held accountable.
