Barcelona midfielder Fermin López has agreed to extend his contract with the Spanish champions by two years, keeping him at the club until June 30, 2031.
In a statement released on Friday, Barcelona confirmed that the 22-year-old attacking midfielder, a graduate of the club’s famed La Masia academy, had agreed “to extend and improve his contract for a further two seasons up to 30 June 2031”. The club added that the formal signing of the new deal will take place in the coming days.
López has established himself as one of Barcelona’s most reliable first-team players since breaking into the senior squad during the 2023/24 season. His energetic style, pressing ability and eye for goal have made him an important option in midfield for the Catalan giants.
Since his debut, López has made 113 appearances for Barcelona and scored 29 goals across all competitions, an impressive return for a midfielder who has often been deployed in advanced attacking roles.
The new deal is also a reflection of his growing influence beyond club football. López has become a regular member of the Spanish national team and was part of the squad that went on to lift the Euro 2024 title, further cementing his status as one of Spain’s emerging midfield talents.
His extension continues Barcelona’s strategy of securing the futures of key players who form the core of the club’s long-term project. Over the past year, the club has also renewed the contracts of several first-team regulars, including teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, as well as Raphinha, Gavi, Pedri and defender Pau Cubarsí.
López will now turn his focus back to domestic action, with Barcelona set to face Elche on Saturday. A victory would see Hansi Flick’s side move four points clear at the top of the La Liga table as they continue their push for the league title.
