Rescue teams drawn from the Naivasha Disaster and Aqua Rescue Team, the county fisheries department, the Kenya Coast Guard Service and local fishermen on Friday recovered the body of a 17-year-old boy who was among three fishermen who drowned at Lake Naivasha after their boat capsized during heavy weather.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Barasa Opecho.

According to the rescue teams, the boat was overwhelmed by strong winds and rough waters, causing it to sink while the three were fishing on the lake.

Officials said difficult weather conditions and high waves slowed down the search operation, but coordinated efforts by the different agencies led to the recovery of Brandon’s body.

The search for the remaining two fishermen was suspended due to dangerous wave conditions and will resume tomorrow, weather permitting.

Authorities have urged fishermen and residents around the lake to exercise caution, especially during periods of heavy winds and unstable weather, as rescue teams remain on standby to continue the operation.
