Mount Kenya University (MKU) successfully hosted its third School of Business and Economics (SBE) Symposium at the Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre, attracting over 3,000 participants from across the country.

The event brought together students, entrepreneurs, academic leaders, and industry stakeholders from MKU campuses in Nairobi, Nakuru, Eldoret, Machakos, Meru, Mombasa, and Thika, providing a dynamic platform to discuss entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital transformation.

Speaking at the symposium, Vice-Chancellor Deogratius Jaganyi underscored the urgent need for businesses and graduates to adapt to technological changes.

“We are witnessing a period of rapid technological transformation where emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, automation, and digital platforms are fundamentally reshaping how businesses operate and compete,” he said.

Jaganyi emphasized the vital role of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in driving economic growth and highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities and industry to equip entrepreneurs with relevant digital skills.

A key highlight of the symposium was the recognition of entrepreneurs who completed a Digital Marketing Masterclass organized by the School of Business and Economics. Mercyline Kamande, a programme coordinator, said the initiative focuses on practical skills:

“The Digital Marketing Masterclass is designed to empower entrepreneurs with practical skills that help them strengthen their online presence, expand their markets, and improve the performance of their businesses.”

Dean Phelista Njeru reiterated the university’s commitment to enterprise development, noting that training programmes equip SME leaders with competencies in areas such as e-commerce, data analytics, and cybersecurity.

The symposium also featured exhibitions and networking sessions, allowing participants to engage with industry players and explore emerging business trends.

Now in its third edition, the forum continues to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry while promoting innovation and enterprise development in Kenya.
