A pilot flying a passenger aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Wilson Airport on Friday evening, May 22, after the plane reportedly developed a landing gear problem mid-flight.
The aircraft, identified as a Dornier 228 operated by the World Food Programme, is said to have crash-landed after its right rear landing gear malfunctioned during landing.
Despite the technical failure, the pilot successfully guided the aircraft to a safe stop on the runway in what witnesses described as a heroic maneuver. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew onboard.
Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to secure the aircraft and ensure the safety of everyone on board.
Authorities had not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the incident by Friday night.
The emergency landing comes barely two months after another aircraft incident involving a Safarilink Aviation flight from Kisumu International Airport, which crash-landed at Wilson Airport.
The Safarilink plane, carrying 39 passengers including Godfrey Osotsi, reportedly skidded off the runway shortly after landing, raising renewed concerns over aviation safety at the busy Nairobi airport.
