COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has warned security officers and government officials against leaking confidential government information to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying those found doing so could risk losing their jobs.
Speaking at St. Francis Mawego Catholic Church Parish in Karachuonyo Constituency, Atwoli accused Gachagua of misusing information allegedly shared with him by government and security officials.
The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss urged government officers who provide intelligence reports to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader to stop, arguing that such disclosures could put the officers’ jobs and safety at risk.
“Don’t give Gachagua information because he misuses that information, and he will cause people’s children in the police force, our young people, to be fired,” Atwoli said.
Atwoli said he also receives information from police officers but claimed that he uses such information for its intended purpose rather than making it public.
He further warned that publicly revealing the identities or sources of confidential security information could endanger police officers.
“You don’t announce at a meeting, ‘I’ve been told by a certain police officer that a certain thing will happen.’ You are endangering the police officers, Gachagua. Stop that foolishness of yours,” he added.
Atwoli attacks Sifuna-led political team
Atwoli, who was accompanied by KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori, also criticised the Linda Mwanachi team associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
He argued that the group was too young to take leadership of the country and accused its members of misleading the public about advancing the political ideals associated with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The union leader further alleged that Sifuna and members of his team were being financed by an unnamed individual to divide the Luhya community.
Atwoli did not provide details or evidence for the allegation.
Bukhungu Three meeting
Atwoli also said members of the Luhya community would host the Bukhungu Three meeting in December, where he said political declarations would be made ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The meeting is expected to attract attention as political leaders and community representatives position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
Atwoli’s remarks come amid increasing political activity and debate over alliances and leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
