Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has proposed former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa for the position of Deputy Party Leader.
Speaking in Kwale County on Friday, Kalonzo said he would front Jumwa for the senior position, with the party leadership expected to formally consider and announce her appointment after deliberations.
Kalonzo praised Jumwa’s political experience and stature, saying she deserves a senior leadership position within Wiper.
“I want to propose that she will be the Deputy Party Leader of Wiper Patriotic Front. The party leadership will formally make the announcement after deliberations,” Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader also noted that, despite her extensive political experience, Jumwa had not previously been offered a similar senior position by another political party.
Jumwa recently quit the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) after expressing frustration over her political ambitions, particularly her bid to contest the Kilifi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
If approved by Wiper’s party organs, Jumwa’s appointment would strengthen the party’s presence at the Coast and add another experienced politician to its senior leadership as Kalonzo prepares for the 2027 elections.
Mohamed Ali Also Named Deputy Party Leader
Kalonzo’s proposal comes shortly after he announced Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as another Deputy Party Leader.
The changes were part of a broader restructuring of the Wiper leadership team that also saw former Cabinet Minister Jamleck Irungu Kamau appointed party chairman and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru named Wiper’s first party spokesperson.
Kalonzo praised Mohamed Ali, a former investigative journalist, citing his anti-corruption credentials and public service record.
He said Ali’s appointment would help bring younger Kenyans and the Coast region into the party’s top leadership.
The proposed elevation of Jumwa, together with Mohamed Ali’s appointment, signals Kalonzo’s efforts to broaden Wiper’s national appeal and strengthen its leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.
