On April 15, 2025, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) conducted a raid on the residence of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged embezzlement of public funds and conflicts of interest within Kiambu County. The operation also involved the questioning of nine other senior county officials, who were subsequently taken to the EACC headquarters for further interrogation regarding their roles in the alleged financial misconduct.

The EACC’s actions are part of a broader effort to address corruption and mismanagement of public resources at the county level. In recent months, the commission has intensified its scrutiny of county governments, uncovering various instances of financial improprieties. For example, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati was recently questioned by the EACC over the alleged misallocation of Ksh.70 million in road construction tenders to companies linked to him and his relatives.

The investigation into Governor Wamatangi and his associates underscores the EACC’s commitment to holding public officials accountable for the stewardship of public funds. As the probe continues, it is expected to shed light on the extent of the alleged financial mismanagement and the involvement of county officials in such activities. The outcome of this investigation could have significant implications for governance and public trust in Kiambu County’s administration.
