Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, the nominee for Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage, has disclosed her family’s estimated net worth at approximately Ksh 420 million. Appearing before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments on April 14, 2025, Cheptumo outlined that the wealth comprises real estate holdings, including a residential property in Karen valued at Ksh 100 million and another in Nakuru worth Ksh 15 million, along with other undisclosed assets.
Cheptumo, a seasoned lawyer and widow of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, has a background in legal practice, having contributed to the family’s law firm established by her late husband. Her nomination to the Cabinet role by President William Ruto is seen as a fulfillment of a promise to the late senator.
The declaration of her family’s net worth is part of the standard vetting process for Cabinet nominees. If approved by Parliament, Cheptumo is poised to lead the Ministry of Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage, a position previously held in an acting capacity by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
