The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has developed a new digital identity system that eliminates the need for physical ID cards. Already integrated into the ICP’s smart app, the system uses real-time facial recognition to verify identity, streamlining processes across various sectors.
Over the coming year, the system will be rolled out gradually across key industries, including banking, healthcare, hospitality, telecommunications, and insurance. The ICP emphasizes that this shift is aimed at enhancing security, speed, and user convenience — while complementing existing infrastructure rather than replacing it abruptly.
Implementation will begin with simpler services and gradually expand to more complex ones. Collaboration is already underway with both public and private entities to ensure smooth and widespread adoption.
This initiative supports the UAE’s larger digital transformation strategy and underscores its commitment to leading in smart governance and digital identity innovation.
