League leaders Gor Mahia strengthened their grip at the top of the Kenyan Premier League standings after a convincing 3–1 victory over Ulinzi Stars, opening a commanding ten-point lead over rivals AFC Leopards.

Early Penalty Gives Gor Mahia Control

Gor Mahia wasted little time asserting their dominance. Just nine minutes into the match, the visitors were awarded a penalty after Musa Shariff was fouled inside the box.

Midfielder Enoch Morrison stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to give K’Ogalo an early 1–0 lead.

Ulinzi Stars tried to regroup after conceding but struggled to contain Gor Mahia’s attacking pressure. The first half was briefly interrupted by an injury scare for the visitors when defender Sylvester Owino was forced off and replaced by Mike Kibwage.

Despite the disruption, Gor Mahia maintained control and carried their narrow advantage into halftime.

Tactical Changes Seal Victory

The second half followed a similar pattern with Gor Mahia dominating possession and creating chances. Head coach Charles Akonnor made a crucial tactical change in the 65th minute, introducing Cameroonian forward Patrick Essombe in place of Ebenezer Assifuah.

The substitution paid off almost immediately.

Essombe latched onto a precise pass from Musa Shariff inside the penalty area and finished confidently to double Gor Mahia’s lead.

Moments later, Shariff capped an outstanding performance by scoring the third goal. Left unmarked in the box, the attacker fired a powerful strike into the top corner to make it 3–0, effectively sealing the victory.

Akonnor later introduced Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw, Ben Stanley Omondi, and Fidel Origa as Gor Mahia comfortably managed the closing stages.

Ulinzi Stars managed a late consolation through Stephen Odhiambo, but the match ended 3–1 in favor of the league leaders.

League Standings

The win lifts Gor Mahia to 53 points, extending their lead at the top of the table to ten points ahead of AFC Leopards.

Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars remain in 17th place with 19 points, continuing their battle to avoid relegation.
