Police in Bungoma County have arrested three suspects linked to cattle rustling and recovered 26 stolen cows in a major operation aimed at curbing livestock theft in the region. The suspects were apprehended following a tip-off from members of the public, leading law enforcement officers to their hideout.
According to Bungoma County Police Commander Francis Kooli, the stolen cattle were traced to a remote area where they were being held before being transported to unknown destinations. “We received intelligence from vigilant residents, and our officers acted swiftly to recover the livestock and arrest the culprits,” Kooli stated.
Cattle rustling has been a persistent issue in parts of Western Kenya, causing losses for local farmers and threatening livelihoods. The police commander assured residents that security operations will be intensified to combat livestock theft and dismantle criminal networks involved in the trade.
The three suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Authorities have urged locals to report any suspicious activities to help curb the vice. Meanwhile, the recovered cattle have been returned to their rightful owners, bringing relief to affected farmers.
Residents have lauded the police for their swift action and called for continued efforts to eradicate livestock theft in the area. Security agencies have vowed to work closely with communities to enhance surveillance and ensure those involved in such crimes face justice.
