A tragic incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, March 23, 2025, in the Kwa Mungai area of Kawangware, Nairobi County, involving a police officer attached to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed. The officer, Corporal Muhammed Yusuf Keinan, reported being confronted by three men while walking home around 8:00 PM. He stated that one of the men attempted to snatch his Ceska pistol, leading to a struggle during which he managed to regain control of his firearm and fired several warning shots to scare off the alleged attackers. However, some eyewitnesses have provided differing accounts.
They allege that the confrontation between Corporal Keinan and Langat stemmed from a disagreement over a pool game bet in a local pub. According to these witnesses, after an initial quarrel, Langat grabbed the officer’s weapon. The officer managed to retrieve his gun, holstered it, and began to walk away. Langat, allegedly intoxicated and holding a stone, followed the officer, who then drew his weapon again and shot Langat multiple times before leaving the scene.
The conflicting narratives have prompted an investigation by the National Police Service. Spokesperson Michael Muchiri emphasized that the investigation will be impartial and that there will be “no room for cover-ups.”
As the investigation unfolds, authorities aim to gather more information, including revisiting the crime scene, obtaining witness statements, and reviewing any available CCTV footage to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
