A communications officer working for Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been accused of assaulting a nurse on duty at a local hospital, sparking outrage among healthcare workers and residents.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the officer, whose name has not been disclosed, visited the hospital and got into a heated argument with the nurse over the administration of medical services. Witnesses claim the altercation escalated, leading to the officer physically assaulting the nurse in front of colleagues and patients.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has strongly condemned the attack, demanding immediate action against the suspect. “It is unacceptable for anyone, especially a government officer, to attack a healthcare worker who is simply doing their job,” said a KNUN representative. “We are calling for justice and protection of medical staff in their workplace.”
Hospital administrators confirmed the incident, stating that the matter had been reported to the police and internal investigations were underway. The assaulted nurse received treatment and is recovering from injuries sustained during the altercation.
Meanwhile, Governor Natembeya’s office has distanced itself from the officer’s actions, stating that such behavior does not reflect the values of the county government. “We do not condone violence of any kind. The matter is being handled by the relevant authorities, and appropriate action will be taken,” said a spokesperson from the governor’s office.
The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of healthcare workers, with many urging county officials to take swift action against individuals who harass or attack medical staff. Some residents have also called for stricter enforcement of laws protecting frontline workers, arguing that such cases have become too common.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter, and the suspect is expected to face legal consequences if found guilty. Meanwhile, healthcare workers across the county have threatened to stage protests if justice is not served swiftly.
As the situation unfolds, many are watching closely to see how the county government will handle the case, with pressure mounting for decisive action against the officer involved.
