The management of Naivasha Level IV Hospital has disposed of 27 decomposing bodies in a mass burial at a Longonot public cemetery. The discreet ceremony, held in the early hours on Tuesday and supervised by public health officers, comes amid claims by some politicians—led by former DP Rigathi Gachagua—that the bodies might include missing youths from the recent Gen-Z protests.

Dr Bernard Warui, the hospital superintendent, confirmed that the disposal was a routine quarterly exercise conducted under the legal framework established by the Department of Public Health and with the support of the DCI. Warui emphasized that the process, which follows a 21-day notice allowing families to claim bodies before burial, is standard practice. He refuted the allegations linking the bodies to Gen-Z protest victims, noting that many had died from hospital-related causes or road accidents, and that some, including minors, had been stored for over a year.

Gachagua had criticized the decision to bury the bodies in a mass grave without allowing families of the missing youths to view them. However, hospital officials maintain that the disposal was carried out strictly according to established public health procedures.
