The body of Yussuf Ali Abdi, who had been missing for over 10 days, was recovered on Sunday, April 13, from the rubble of a condemned building in Mombasa. CCTV footage confirmed that Abdi entered the building shortly before it collapsed. The building, located near the Mackinnon Market area, had been marked for demolition due to severe structural issues, including foundational compromise from unapproved borehole drilling. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) led the demolition on April 9, following a mandatory evacuation within a 1.2-kilometer radius to ensure public safety. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir confirmed the recovery and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the collapse. One official has been suspended, and another placed on compulsory leave pending the outcome of the probe
