Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has formally called for the impeachment of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, accusing him of fostering tribal divisions and engaging in corrupt practices. Cherargei claims that Natembeya’s actions are incompatible with the responsibilities of his office and have led to a deterioration in development and unity within the county.
In response to these allegations, Governor Natembeya has asserted that his political opponents are attempting to remove him due to his outspoken criticism of the government’s handling of issues such as abductions and extrajudicial killings. He contends that these efforts are politically motivated and aimed at silencing dissenting voices.
Despite the calls for his impeachment, Natembeya has received support from local leaders and residents. Members of the County Assembly have dismissed the impeachment discussions as baseless, urging the governor to continue focusing on serving the people of Trans Nzoia.
The situation remains fluid, with political tensions escalating between the governor and certain members of the ruling coalition. The outcome of this dispute could have significant implications for governance and political dynamics in Trans Nzoia County.
