Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at Anfield until 2027. The Dutch defender’s new deal includes performance-related bonuses that could raise his weekly earnings to £400,000, up from his previous wage of £220,000.
Van Dijk’s commitment comes shortly after Mohamed Salah also renewed his contract through 2027, providing a significant boost for Liverpool as they aim to secure another Premier League title.
Since joining Liverpool in 2018 for a then-record £75 million, Van Dijk has been instrumental in the club’s success, including winning the Champions League and their first Premier League title in 30 years. Despite being 33, Van Dijk remains a key player under manager Arne Slot, having played every minute of every Premier League game this season. His leadership and defensive prowess continue to be vital as Liverpool closes in on their record-tying 20th Premier League title.
While Van Dijk and Salah have secured their futures with Liverpool, the club faces uncertainty regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to leave for Real Madrid when his contract ends in June.
