At least 22 passengers were injured after a bus heading to Kisii veered off the road and rolled along the Bomet-Kisii highway, at the Mumberes area of Sotik, Bomet County.
Confirming the incident, Bomet County Traffic Police Commandant Amos Namasaka said the bus — belonging to Guardian Angel — lost control while trying to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
“It is a Nyamira Express bus that was heading to Kisii. The driver lost control of the bus as he tried to overtake another vehicle, and it veered off the road,” Namasaka said.
The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported.
“Some 22 people were injured and have been taken to the hospital. Thankfully, no one was killed,” added the police boss.
The crash caused a heavy traffic snarl-up on the busy Kisii-Narok highway, with motorists experiencing delays of nearly an hour before normal flow was restored.
Authorities are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially when overtaking along busy and narrow highways to prevent such incidents. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
