Ferdinand Omanyala delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games, setting a new African and Kenyan record in the men’s 150m with a time of 14.70 seconds. This achievement surpasses his previous record of 14.89 seconds set in 2023 at the same event. Omanyala’s victory places him among the top five fastest men ever in this rarely contested distance, trailing only sprint legends Usain Bolt (14.35) and Tyson Gay/Noah Lyles (14.41) . Wikipedia
The race saw Omanyala face early competition from Bahamian sprinter Terrence Jones, who finished second with a time of 14.93 seconds, while American Matthew Boling secured third place at 15.15 seconds . Notably absent was American sprint star Noah Lyles, who withdrew due to a tight ankle, a decision he made to avoid aggravating the injury.
Omanyala’s triumph comes after a series of mixed results earlier in the season, including a second-place finish at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix and Xiamen Diamond League, followed by a ninth-place result at the Shanghai Diamond League . Looking ahead, he is set to compete in the Rabat Diamond League on May 25, followed by the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi on May 31.
