Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, is expected to appear at the Milimani Law Courts today, Monday, May 19, 2025, following his dramatic arrest on Friday evening. The legislator was apprehended along the Isiolo-Nanyuki highway by officers believed to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to eyewitnesses, the arrest involved a high-tension confrontation, with officers reportedly shooting at the tyres of Salasya’s vehicle to bring it to a stop. After immobilizing the car, they disarmed his security detail and took him into custody. He was then transported to the Central Police Station in Nairobi, where he has been held over the weekend.

Salasya’s lawyer, Mr. Echesa, revealed that the MP is being investigated for allegedly publishing false information, which authorities claim amounts to ethnic incitement and hate speech. However, the police have not yet disclosed the specific statements or actions that led to these accusations.

“The officers told us they had strict instructions to hold him until Monday for arraignment,” Echesa said, adding, “We believe this is a politically motivated move, and we are ready to face any charges that the state will bring against him.”

The arrest has sparked sharp reactions from Salasya’s supporters, who view the move as an attempt to intimidate the outspoken MP. Known for his vocal and often controversial political stances, Salasya has recently launched a national tour that he describes as part of his early campaign for the 2027 presidential election.

Despite the looming court appearance and growing political tension, Salasya has maintained a defiant stance. Speaking before his arrest, he reiterated his commitment to what he termed as “speaking the truth and standing for the people,” adding that no amount of intimidation would derail his presidential ambitions.

As the court prepares to hear his case, all eyes will be on the legal proceedings to see whether they mark the beginning of a prolonged political battle or a short-lived legal hurdle for the youthful MP.
