A tragic incident has unfolded in Bidii village, Kitale, where 19-year-old herder Enock Omoi was allegedly killed after cows under his care grazed on a maize farm. Originally from Kisii County, Omoi had moved to Trans Nzoia in search of better opportunities and had recently secured employment as a herdsman.
According to local residents, the cows inadvertently entered a maize field, leading to a confrontation. Omoi was reportedly chased by individuals angered by the incident, and his body was later discovered in the nearby Sabwani River.
The community is in mourning and expressing outrage over the killing. Fridah Marumbo, a resident, recounted, “He just went to retrieve the cows that had entered the maize field, and then they chased him until he was found dead in the water.”
Enock’s brother, Douglas Makori, is calling for justice and urging witnesses to come forward. “Those who were in the field applying fertilizer should be questioned because if they remain silent, what if it happens to someone else again?” he said.
Kwanza Police Commander Fred Abuga confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a manhunt for the suspects involved in the incident. The community awaits answers and justice for Enock Omoi.
