Nakuru County, Kenya — Six people were killed early Saturday morning in a grisly road accident at Soysambu area in Mbaruk along the Nakuru–Gilgil Highway.
The 4 a.m. crash involved a Toyota Caldina saloon car and a truck. According to police reports, the six victims were all occupants of the smaller vehicle, which collided head-on with the truck near the Soysambu stretch of the busy highway.
A junior traffic officer from Gilgil Police Station, who requested anonymity as they are not authorized to speak to the media, said preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the Toyota Caldina was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the crash occurred.
“The driver of the Caldina appears to have misjudged the distance and rammed into an oncoming truck. The impact was so severe that all six occupants of the saloon car died on the spot,” the officer said.
The wreckage of both vehicles has since been towed to Gilgil Police Station, while the bodies have been transferred to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital Mortuary. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident as families begin the painful process of identifying their loved ones.
This accident adds to a growing number of fatal crashes reported along the Nakuru–Gilgil Highway, one of the busiest and most dangerous roads in the country, often blamed for overspeeding, reckless overtaking, and fatigue among long-distance drivers.
Police are urging motorists to exercise caution, especially during early morning and late-night hours when visibility is poor and fatigue is common.
