A sombre mood has engulfed Lelkatet area in Bomet County following the tragic deaths of two teenage cousins who allegedly ingested a poisonous substance.
The victims have been identified as Elisha Kibet, 14, and Amos Kiprono, 15. The two were reportedly found inside a room where they had been staying after swallowing an unknown substance under circumstances that are yet to be fully established.
According to Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa, Elisha Kibet was pronounced dead on arrival at Longisa Referral Hospital, while Amos Kiprono succumbed while receiving treatment at the same facility.
Police have since launched investigations to determine the type of substance consumed and the circumstances leading to the incident, including the possible motive behind the apparent suicide.
The bodies of the two teenagers have been transferred to the Longisa Referral Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to aid investigations.
Authorities have urged members of the public to seek help and speak out in cases of emotional distress, especially among young people, as investigations continue.
