The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has issued a public alert following the sighting of two lionesses that strayed from Nairobi National Park into Kitengela, raising safety concerns among residents.

In a statement, KWS said the two lions were spotted in Sholinke Trading Area, approximately 8.3 kilometres from the park boundary.

“KWS teams are actively managing the situation. Rangers are already on the ground, and veterinary teams are on their way to safely dart, capture and relocate the lionesses back to the park,” the agency said.

KWS emphasized that the operation is ongoing and that public safety remains the top priority.

Residents in Kitengela and surrounding areas have been urged to remain calm, avoid the affected location, keep children indoors, and refrain from approaching or attempting to photograph the animals.

Members of the public have also been asked to promptly report any sightings or emergencies through KWS Toll-Free Line 0800 597 000 or via WhatsApp on 0726 610 509.

The wildlife authority said it will continue to provide updates as the operation progresses, urging cooperation from the public to ensure both human safety and the welfare of the animals.

Human-wildlife interactions have become increasingly common around Nairobi National Park due to urban expansion and seasonal wildlife movements.
