Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata will be away from physical office duties for about a month after sustaining a heel tendon injury, the county government has confirmed.

According to an official statement, the injury occurred on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, while Governor Kang’ata was attending a Nutrition International meeting in Nairobi. The Canadian government-backed organisation works with Murang’a and other counties to advance nutritional and public health initiatives.

“H.E. Gov. Irungu Kang’ata was attending a Nutritional International meeting in Nairobi when he unfortunately tripped and sustained an injury to his heel tendons,” the statement read.

Following a medical evaluation, the Governor has been advised to avoid in-person engagements for approximately one month to ensure full recovery. During this period, he will continue to receive treatment while remaining involved in official duties virtually.

To ensure smooth administration, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will handle matters requiring the Governor’s physical presence, while the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie, will oversee designated engagements as appropriate.

Virtual official meetings are scheduled to resume starting Monday, 24th February 2026, allowing the Governor to participate remotely.

The county government expressed gratitude for the prayers and goodwill from residents and stakeholders, wishing the Governor a speedy recovery.
