Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of abandoning his oversight role.
Speaking during an interview on TV47’s Ukumbi Wa Siasa show on Tuesday, February 25, Jalang’o declared that he will vie for the Nairobi senatorial seat in 2027, insisting that Sifuna has failed to grasp his constitutional mandate.
“Nimeona pahali kuna nafasi ambapo mtu alichaguliwa na hajafanya kazi yake. Ndiyo kwa sababu tunasema wana Nairobi wanahitaji uwakilishaji wa haki na mtu mwenye yuko pale (present),” Jalang’o said, adding that the lack of oversight in Nairobi County is part of the reason he is shifting his focus to the Senate race.
The comedian‑turned‑politician defended his track record in Lang’ata, claiming his constituents appreciate the projects he has initiated. He acknowledged that no leader can solve all problems, but emphasized that leadership is about improving situations, not eliminating challenges entirely.
Jalang’o also dismissed speculation that he is a government “project” aimed at unseating Sifuna, stressing that his ambitions are self‑driven:
“Kama unanijua vizuri, mimi hakuna mtu amewahi kunisukuma kwa chochote. Mimi nina ndoto zangu maishani. Nataka leo nipige miaka zangu tano nzuri kama seneta, watu wa Nairobi waione kazi yangu jinsi watu wa Lang’ata wameiona, baada ya seneta mimi ntakuwa gavana, baada ya gavana mimi ndiyo rais.”
