Police in Makueni County have launched investigations following the discovery of a human body part in the Kiongwani area along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
According to a police report, officers on routine patrol were alerted by members of the public after a suspected human body part was spotted near the roadside.
Officers from Sultan Hamud Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mukaa, responded to the scene and recovered what was confirmed to be a human male genital organ believed to belong to an unidentified man.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the body part may have been severed elsewhere before being dumped at the location where it was discovered.
Investigators processed the scene and collected the evidence before transferring it to the Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it will be preserved pending identification and further forensic examination.
The unusual discovery has sparked concern among residents in the area, with police noting that no reports of a person having suffered such an injury or mutilation have been received within the locality.
Detectives from DCI Mukaa have since launched investigations to establish the circumstances under which the body part was severed, identify the victim, and determine whether the incident is linked to a criminal act.
Police have appealed to members of the public with any information that may assist investigations to report to the nearest police station.
