The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has appealed to members of the public to assist in tracing a suspect wanted in connection with the disappearance of a four-year-old child in Nakuru County.
According to the DCI, the child was reported missing at Mwariki Police Station on June 11, 2026, prompting an intensive investigation by law enforcement agencies.
As the family continued their desperate search for the child, the suspect is alleged to have aggravated the situation by attempting to negotiate a ransom, raising concerns that the disappearance may have been linked to criminal activity.
Acting on intelligence leads, detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit, working alongside officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau at DCI Headquarters and Mwariki Police Station, traced the suspect to a residential plot in the Quarry area of Rongai.
However, investigators said the suspect managed to evade arrest after spotting the detectives approaching. He reportedly fled into nearby slums and has remained on the run since then.
A search conducted in the room where the suspect is believed to have spent the night yielded several items, including a mobile phone, personal belongings, and a mother-and-child clinic booklet containing the details of another minor from Nakuru County.
The recovery of the clinic booklet has raised fresh concerns among investigators, who are now seeking to establish whether the suspect may be linked to other cases involving children.
The DCI has urged members of the public with any information that could help locate the suspect to immediately report to the nearest police station or contact law enforcement authorities.
Investigations into the disappearance of the child and the suspect’s activities are ongoing.
