Police have launched investigations into the deaths of two young girls who were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Nkura 3 Village, Nyangoge Sub-location, Kisii South Sub-county.
The victims, identified as four-year-old Annah Bahati and five-year-old Stacy Nyanchama, reportedly disappeared at around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday while playing together.
According to preliminary reports, a search for the children ended at about 10:00 p.m. when their bodies were discovered in a banana plantation near Marble Hospital.
Investigators are probing several possible circumstances surrounding the deaths. Initial reports suggest the girls may have been defiled, poisoned, and killed. However, authorities have emphasized that the exact cause of death has not yet been established and will be determined through investigations and a post-mortem examination.
A bottle believed to contain a poisonous substance was recovered near the scene, raising suspicion that the children may have been poisoned after being abducted. The contents of the bottle are expected to undergo forensic analysis.
Police officers from Suneka Police Station, accompanied by Kisii South Deputy County Commissioner Grace Ouma, visited and processed the scene.
The bodies were later transferred to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Police have appealed to members of the public with any information that could assist in the investigation to report to the nearest police station as detectives work to identify those responsible for the deaths.
The incident has shocked residents of the area, who are calling for swift investigations and justice for the two children.
