Police in Samburu County have intercepted a motor vehicle allegedly transporting suspected counterfeit alcoholic products during an intelligence-led operation at Suguta Marmar.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Suguta Marmar Police Station, working alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Samburu Central, stopped the vehicle at the Suguta Marmar roadblock.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of alcoholic products suspected to be counterfeit. The vehicle was subsequently detained as investigations into the consignment got underway.
The NPS said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the manufacture, transportation and distribution of counterfeit alcoholic products across the country.
The vehicle was later transferred to Maralal Police Station, where it remains detained as relevant government agencies verify the products and investigators determine the appropriate course of action.
The police service said the crackdown is aimed at preventing potentially harmful alcoholic products from reaching unsuspecting consumers.
“Such interventions are important in keeping potentially harmful products from reaching unsuspecting consumers,” the NPS said in a statement shared on its X account.
Authorities have continued to urge members of the public to provide information that could help identify individuals and networks involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit products.
The NPS encouraged anyone with information regarding suspected counterfeit alcohol or other suspicious activities to report to the police through the emergency toll-free numbers 999 and 911.
Members of the public can also share information with the DCI through the toll-free hotline 0800 722 203 under the hashtag #FichuaKwaDCI, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
The intercepted products will undergo verification by the relevant agencies, after which further action will be taken against anyone found to have violated the law.
