Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana and his wife, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga, are mourning the death of their eight-year-old daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana.
The family said Amal died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
According to the family, Amal had experienced health complications since birth and had received treatment both in Kenya and abroad over the years.
Her death has prompted messages of condolence from leaders across the country, including President William Ruto, who mourned the young girl and conveyed his sympathies to the senator and his family.
“The loss of a child is a sorrow beyond measure. At this profoundly difficult moment, I join your family, friends and all who knew and loved Amal in mourning a young life taken far too soon,” President Ruto said.
He prayed for strength, comfort and peace for the bereaved family and for Amal’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
PLP leader Martha Karua also sent a message of condolence to the family, acknowledging the difficult journey they had endured while caring for their daughter.
“You have walked a long and difficult road with your daughter through her illness, and I pray God holds your hearts gently through this terrible loss,” Karua said.
She further prayed that the family would receive comfort during the difficult period and that Amal would be granted eternal rest.
Burial arrangements are expected to take place on Friday, September 18, 2026.
