KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah addresses the press flanked by other union officials on July 24, 2025.

An irate police officer attached to Thome 5 Police Post allegedly assaulted a group of journalists and threatened to fire live rounds while dispersing elderly, peaceful residents of Thome V Estate.

The residents, organized under the Thome V Residents Welfare Association and led by their chairman, Daniel Kibira, were reportedly protesting alleged irregularities in the approval of a high-rise development in an area zoned for a single dwelling unit per half-acre.

The incident occurred on Monday, December 22, highlighting growing tensions between residents and authorities over urban planning and zoning regulations in Nairobi’s residential estates.

No official statement has yet been released by the Nairobi County Police Command, and it remains unclear whether any arrests were made or if the officer involved will face disciplinary action.
